John McDade is an industry veteran with an impressive 49 years of experience in the mortgage business. His journey began when he met the manager of Palomar Mortgage in Santa Ana, California, which provided him with the platform he had always wanted to work with veterans. Throughout his career, John has held various roles, including loan officer, branch manager, Vice President in the builder division, Executive Vice President and general manager overseeing production, Director of Government Lending, and his current and most cherished role as Director of VA Lending at SMP.
In 2019, John received a call from Kevin on a referral from an SMP loan officer, which led him to join this wonderful organization. He is passionate about SMP’s people, culture, and mission, finding great fulfillment in being part of the team.
John values spending quality time with his family when he’s not working. They are heavily involved in football and enjoy hosting outdoor barbecues. Additionally, John has an extensive background in football officiating, having dedicated 22 years to the role. Currently, he coaches alongside his son at the high school level and contributes as an instant replay official for the Mountain West football and basketball conference at San Diego State. Furthermore, he takes charge of organizing volunteers for the Holiday Bowl.
John’s personal life is anchored by his enduring marriage to his wife, Cathy, with whom he will celebrate their 44th wedding anniversary on May 26th, 2023. Together, they have two sons, aged 41 and 38, and are proud grandparents to two grandsons, aged 17 and 13.
